I, Johannes J. Dalen, of the township of Reno in the County of Pope and State of Minnesota being of sound mind ... declare this to be my last Will and Testament.
FIRST, I order and direct that my executor hereinafter named, pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as conveniently may be.
SECOND, after the payment of such funeral expenses and debts, I give, devise and bequeath unto my beloved son, Martinus Dalen, an undivided one half interest in all my property, real and personal; unto my beloved daughter Julia Dalen, an undivided three tenths interest in all my property, real and personal; and unto my beloved son, Otto Dalen, the remaining undivided two tenths of all my property real and personal.
LASTLY, I make, constitute and appoint I.M. Engebretson to be executor of this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed seal, the 9th day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirteen. X his mark

(In 1865 Johannes went home to Norway to help out. In 1875 he worked for the Osterdal railroad and lived at home.?? ) In 1879 he went to St. Cloud, Sterns Co. Minnesota, through Oslo, while Guri and Marit went through New York in 1880. Johannes and Guri were married in America. They had a farm in Lowry. They used Dalen as their surname in America.

John Dalen, an old pioneer of Pope County died Wednesday morning at the age of seventy two years. He had been in ill health for some time and death finally ended the long period of suffering.
The deceased was born in Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, and came to this country with his wife and one child, thirty-four years ago, settling on the farm which he occupied until his death. His wife died twenty years ago.
Death has deprived the community of a good old settler and a kind father, leaving in bereavement seven children, John, Sigurd and Emil who live in Canada; Mrs. H. Hanson, Martinus, Otto, and Julia who are at home.
The funeral services will be held at home and the St. Pauli church Monday. -- Lowry Union.
